Cong thanks PM for pension hike for freedom fighters

New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) The Congress today thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his gesture in raising the pension of freedom fighters on a request to this effect made by Congress President Sonia Gandhi to him.

An AICC release issued here by its General Secretary Janaradan Dwivedi said Mrs Gandhi had personally requested the UPA Government to consider incresing the pension of the freedom fighters to mark the Centenary of the Satyagraha. She had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard on October 23 last.

The Congress Party had decided to celebrate and commemorate the Centenary in a befitting and appropriate manner,the release said.

According to the release, the pension of three categories of freedom fighters was increased recently following a letter addressed by Mrs Gandhi to Dr Manmohan Singh.
