Chandigarh enter semifinal in 20-20 U-19 Nationals
Chandigarh, Nov 16 (UNI) Hosts Chandigarh became the first team to qualify for the semi-final as they outplayed an inexperienced Jammu and Kashmir by 201 runs in the inaugural National Twenty-20 Cricket Championship for Under-19 here today.
Medium pacer Jaskaran Singh (5 for 9) and Naveen (3 for 14) dismissed Jammu and Kashmir for just 24 runs in 8.3 overs.
Earlier, Chandigarh piled up 225 for one in the stipulated 20 overs. The highlight of their innings was a 163-run partnership between openers Amit Prashar (unbeaten 89, 15x4s) and Sarul Kanwar (90, 17x4s). Prashar and Karan Sharma (30 not out) carried the total to 225 without being separated.
In another match a brilliant unbeaten century by Vipandeep (105, 11x4s, 7x6s) helped Punjab rout Indian Twenty-20 Cricket Federation XI (ITCF) by eight wickets to top pool A and qualify for quarter-final. ITCF made 158 for 8 in 20 overs while Punjab achieved the target by scoring 161 for 2 in 16.2 overs.
Baroda scored their second successive triumph in Pool C and qualified for the quarter-final. In their last pool match they beat Mumbai by 129 runs.
A 114-run stand for the second wicket between Aasif Sheikh (59) and Dhaval Brahmbhat (43) helped Baroda pile up 165 for 6. Dhawal (4 for 18) was the most successful bowler for Mumbai. Baroda then skittled out Mumbai for 36 runs. Chirag Rathore (3 for 2) and Chimnay (3 for 10) troubled Mumbai.
Line-up for other quarter-final matches to be plaeyed tomorrow are: Punjab vs Maharashtra and Baroda vs Uttranchal and Delhi vs Haryana.
