Bush underpins US presence in the Far East
Singapore, Nov 16 (UNI) United States President George W Bush, who arrived here today enroute to the Asia Pacific Economic Leaders meeting in Hanoi, affirmed his belief in the importance of his country's presence in the Far East.
''America's presence in the Far East is very important for our own country. And, therefore, when you share your thoughts with me, it makes it much easier for us to conduct wise foreign policy," said Mr Bush, on a second visit to Singapore after 2003.
The President highlighted the common interest of the US and Singapore, particularly the desire to continue to promote free and fair trade.
He also noted the Singapore has shown that open markets were capable of upliftment of people, and lauded the island state's free trade approach, saying it has become a model for the region.
President Bush also discussed with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong security and trade issues.
