Bank employees to go on strike from March next

New Delhi, Nov 16: Bank employees across the country have threatened to go on ''continous'' strike from March next year in protest against government's move to 'consolidate' the sector and go in for outsourcing.

United Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella organisation of five bank employees' unions and four bank officers' unions, in a meeting in Chennai, took a decision to go on continous strike from March next as the government had failed to consider their opposition to merger and acquisition of public sector banks and outsourcing, a statement said here today.

The employees also opposed ''attack on trade union rights and privileges'' and demanded second option for pension, restoration of appointments on compassionate grounds and a recruitment drive to fill vacancies.

Putting the onus of action to avert the strike on the government, UFBU demanded that it should initiate talks with the employees at the earliest.
