'Bala Mitra' police station inaugurated

Visakhapatnam, Nov 16 (UNI) A 'Bala Mitra' -- child-friendly police station -- was inaugurated here today by Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen.

The station, all equipped with indoor games, a sand pit, spacious hall, jungle gym, swing and slide and other play equipment is aimed at making children comfortable in the police station precincts.

Speaking after the inauguration, Mr Sen said the move would pave the way for better relations between children and the police.

He said the department would set up similar police stations at Nellore, Kothagudem, Vijayawada and other places.

It was planned to recruit people trained in social work, two senior citizens and a doctor for the 'Bala Mitras.' Mr Sen nthanked the district administration as well as local political leaders for their assistance.
