Army Eastern Commander in Manipur to review situation

Imphal, Nov 16 (UNI) The GOC-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lt Gen Arvind Sharma, accompanied by GOC 3 Corps Lt Gen MS Dadwal, was here on a two-day visit to Manipur to review the situation and preparedness for coming Assembly elections in the state.

Mr Sharma was briefed by GOC 57 Mountain Division Maj Gen EJ Kochekan at Leimakhong and IG AR (S) Maj Gen BK Chengapa at Mantripukhri soon after his arrival yesterday.

Besides briefing on the prevailing insurgency situation, he was also apprised of the current political situation including preparations for coming Assembly elections.

Manipur is expected to go 60-member assembly elections in first quarter of next year.
