Affidavits in Bhanu case must be filed by Nov 23: HC
Ranchi, Nov 16 (UNI) Jharkhand High Court today directed the Inspector General (IG), Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and the Superintendent of Police, Garwah, to file an affidavit on November 23 and seek mercy from the court in connection with the staying of the procedure of warrant of arrest of Bhawnathpur MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Muthusamy Karpagavinaygam and Justice Permod Kohli passed the order while hearing a writ petition of its own motion.
The IG, DIG, SP and the Investigating Officers appeared in the court as per the earlier order and filed their affidavits.
Advocate General S B Gadodia, who had been appointed as amicus curie to assist the court, pleaded that one opportunity be given to the police officials to correct themselves.
The court granted a last opportunity to the police officials to realise their mistakes, directing them to file a proper affidavit to seek mercy from the court.
Earlier, during the course of argument, the court observed that the case projected by the police officials in the light of the stand taken by the IOs and the action taken by the superior officers against those IOs during the pendency of the case would present a bad picture.
The court further observed that the police officials were wrong in some quarter and they should be give one more opportunity to see whether they realise their folly.
