Ranchi, Nov 15 (UNI) The Jharkhand government today accorded second official language status to Urdu, Bangla and Santhali in the state.

Chief Minister Madhu Koda made this announcement on the occasion of the sixth Statehood Day.

Yesterday, the BJP demanded the second language status for Bengali in the state.

Recently, the steering committee recommended according the second language status to Urdu.

The literature cell of the party's state unit made mockery of the second language status accorded to Urdu, saying since undivided Bihar the language was identified in that category only.

Meanwhile, Mr Koda said ponds would be constructed all over the 32,000 villages in the state, adding irrigitation facility would be provided to needy farmers.

He listed out various developmental projects undertaken by the government and asserted that the UPA government believed in inauguration not in laying foundation.
