UP to come up with 28 new sugar mills in the state
Lucknow, Nov 15 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today said that 28 new sugar mills would be set up in the state with 14 mills coming up in the present financial year.
Disclosing that the state goverment would soon announce the State Advisory Price (SAP), The CM claimed that UP has become the country's top state in sugarcane and sugar production.
Addressing a press conference here, the CM said his government was committed to give good price to the cane farmers and it would announce the SAP price soon.
Mr Yadav added ''the present government had already invested over Rs 5000 crore in the sugar industry through private participation and the new 28 sugar mills would add another boost to the industry.'' The Samajwadi Party supremo stated ''UP has achieved a distinction of becoming the highest producer of sugarcane in the country, while Maharastra which was said to be the ' sugar bowl' of the country could only produce 32 lakh tonne of cane during the last crushing season against the UP's record production of 63 lakh tonne.'' Criticising the Centre for ignoring farmers plight, he said the Mimimum Support Price (MSP) for the wheat announced by the UPA government was around 650 per quintal, while the Centre was importing wheat at a price of Rs 1000 per quintal.
