Union Bank's "Union Mitr" on Foundation Day

Mumbai, Nov 15: Union Bank of India (UBI) has launched a new scheme 'Union Mitra', targetted at the debt-ridden farmers, to provide them financial education and to articulate them about their financial requirements and management on the occasion of its 88th Foundation Day.

'Union Mitra' was launched here last evening under the umbrella of 51 Village Knowledge Centres (VKC), established by the bank. It will accelerate the growth and eliminate financial problems not only of rural masses but also of other sections of society in general, the bank CMD M V Nair said at the launch function.

The service would be provided free of cost irrespective of whether the person is the bank's customer or not, he said.

Through this scheme, the bank aims to provide financial education and in turn, help in tackling the overwhelming problem of suicides by farmers, he informed.

Three voluntary organisations -- Samriddhi Adivasi Vananchal Sanstha of Chhattisgarh, Shri K K Charitablen Trust and Hilda Trust -- were felicitated for their outstanding contribution to society by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governors Shyamala Gopinath and Usha Thorat on the occasion.
