ULFA explodes bomb, demands formal proposal through PCG for talks

Guwahati, Nov 15 (UNI) Suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)'s rampage continued unabated with the outfit triggering a blast damaging Oil India Limited (OIL)'s crude oil pipeline in Sibsagar district last night even as the ULFA today demanded a formal proposal from the Centre through the PCG for talks.

The crude oil caught fire immediately after the explosion but the authorities managed to control the blaze before it caused more damage.

Police said there was no casualty or injury to anybody.

Police also recovered about seven kg of RDX from a spot under Sonari police station of the district yesterday. The explosive was concealed in a pressure cooker and planted on a road at Sarupathar near Sapekhati.

Meanwhile, in the latest issue of ULFA mouthpiece "Freedom", the outfit stated that the talks, if any, with the Centre must be based on the "core issue of restoration of sovereignty of Asom." The ULFA said, " We are aware of the news that the two key mediators Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami and Rebati Phukon have met the National Security Adviser (NSA) in response to the Centre's invitation in an attempt to restart the peace process of Asom. This is nothing but a fradulent endeavour to hold India's Republic Day celebrations early next year without hindrance, " it stated.

" However, ULFA cares for a political solution to Asom-Indo conflict. However, to keep this process rolling India must send a formal proposal through the PCG and the core issue of talks should be restoration of sovereignty of Asom. ULFA would welcome such a proposal, " it said.
