Two officers arrested for accepting bribe

Patna, Nov 15 (UNI) Bihar Vigilance Bureau has arrested a circle officer and an engineer while accepting bribes from people in Begusarai and Nalanda districts.

Additional Director General (ADG) Neelmani said the sleuths arrested circle officer Nand Kishore Verma, Bhagwanpur block, when he was receiving Rs 1000 from a person at his official residence in Begusarai. The sleuths had laid the trap following a tip off from two women, who had informed about the demand by the officer in lieu of reimbursement of Rs 10,000 under government's social assistance scheme.

Over Rs 1.1 lakh was recovered in cash while fixed deposit papers, pass books and national saving certificates worth Rs 7.80 lakh were seized during the raid carried out at the residence of the arrested officer, Neelmani said.

In another raid executive engineer of RDD at Sheikhpura Girdhari Prasad was arrested while he was taking Rs 25,000 at his Biharsharif residence in Nalanda. The cash was handed over to Mr Prasad by an assistant engineer Vineet Kumar of the same department who had informed the bureau about the demand of bribe by the arrested officer in connection with payment of his salary arrear, Neelamani informed.

Both the arrested officers were being brought here for interrogation, he added.
