Tributes paid to 'Vir Birsa Munda' on his birth anniversary

Ranchi, Nov 15 (UNI) Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Razi and Chief Minister Madhu Koda today paid tributes to Birsa Munda in a function organised to commemorate his birth anniversary at Birsa Chowk near the state assembly here.

Counting the contribution of Birsa Munda in country's freedom struggle Mr Razi said that despite being born in a poor and rural family Birsa Munda was a true nationalist and fought with the British.

He said that besides the freedom struggle Birsa Munda also fought against the social evils like black magic, witchcraft and alcoholism.

Mr Razi also appealed to the Chief Minister and his cabinet collegues to find out methods for formation of a better state, adding that efforts should be done for the upliftment of the downtrodden and people living below the poverty line.

Chief Minister Madhu Koda urged the people to celebrate the statehood day and birth anniversary of Birsa Munda as 'development day' of the state.

Series of functions were organised in the state capital and throughout the state as well to mark the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda.

Earlier, Governor and Chief Minister also paid floral tributes at the 'Samadhi sthal' of Birsa Munda located near the distillery bridge in the state capital.
