Service tax collection records 61 per cent growth

New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) The Service Tax collection in the month of September, 2006, registered an increase of 61.24 per cent at Rs 2,584.72 crore as compared to Rs 1,603 crore during the same period last year.

The collections up to the month of September grew by 63.73 per cent at Rs 13,356.87 crore as against Rs 13,356.87 crore during the corresponding period last year.

The Ahmedabad zone detected 14 cases involving amount of Rs 1.81 crore, an official statement said.

Service Tax Commissionerate, Mumbai (Anti-Evasion) booked 20 cases and recovered Rs 3.27 crore and the Audit team of the Commissionerate recovered Rs 3.28 crore.

Commissionerate of Service Tax, Bangalore booked a case against Parametic Technology India Pvt Ltd for evasion of Rs 2.06 crore, under the category of ''Maintenance and Repairs'' and ''Business Auxiliary Service''.
