Sensex crosses 13,500 mk in intra day session
Mumbai, Nov 15: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex today crossed the 13,500 mark, creating yet another landmark in it's history here.
In the intra day session equities surged, thanks to a positive global trend and heavy inflow of funds from Foreign Institutional Investors, the Sensex opened on a buoyant note this morning.
After opening with a positive gap of over 50 points at 13,476.28, the Sensex breezed past the 13,500 mark to a new high of 13,505.34 in a flash and is currently seen moving around 13,475, up nearly 50 points or 0.37 per cent over yesterday's closing mark.
On the National Stock Exchange, the 50 stock Nifty index has gained 0.25% or 9.55 points at 3875.45. Earlier, after opening at 3865.95, it had spurted to a new high of 3888.80.
IT stocks are seen attracting strong buying enquiries once again.
Tata Consultancy Services has surged 1.35 per cent to Rs 1121.
Wipro, which remained somewhat subdued yesterday, is up with a sharp gain of 1.2 per cent at Rs 552. Infosys Technologies and Satyam Computers have gained 0.6 per cent each at Rs 2223 and Rs 434.15 respectively.
HDFC Bank, Reliance Communications, Larsen&Toubro, Reliance Energy, ICICI Bank, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Maruti Udyog and State Bank of India have also posted smart gains.
Cipla, Hindustan Lever, Reliance Industries and Grasim Industries are up marginally over their previous closing levels. HDFC, Hindalco, Hero Honda, Cipla and NTPC are down with minor losses.
MTNL has surged 3.25 per cent to Rs 137.90. Jet Airways, HCL Technologies, Oriental Bank of Commerce and Punjab National Bank have posted notable gains, brokers said.
