Seizure of a US made pistol puzzles Surat police

Surat, Nov 15: The Local Crime Branch(LCB) today said that they have arrested two persons and seized a US-made pistol and three live cartridges on Monday night at Pipodra GIDC area here, and are now probing into the possibility of the existence of a big arms racket in the diamond city.

According to LCB sources a person named Avadesh Garg was arrested during a night patrol by the LCB and a US-made pistol worth Rs 1.25 lakh was recovered from him.

When interrogated Avadesh confessed that he had bought the pistol from one Amit Mishra and Ganga Bharati. Police subsequently arrested Ganga Bharati and recovered three live cartridges from her residence.

Ganga Bharti revealed that the pistol belonged to her husband, Amit, who is at the moment at Allahabad in connection with some work, police said.

While further investigations are on, the arrested were charged under the Arms Act, LCB sources added.
