Satyam plans student exchange prog with Saudi Arabia

New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Satyam Computer Services Ltd has planned to start a student exchange programme for key universities in Saudi Arabia to train Saudi graduates at its facilities in India.

The company has made a proposal to the visiting Saudi Arabia Deputy Minister for Higher Education Abdullah Bin Ibrahim Al-Moajil for the same.

Mr Al-Moajil was in India to sign contracts with the Ministry of Human Resource Development and major players in the India Inc.

According to the announcement made today, the programme aims at transforming fresh graduates into 'industry-ready' software engineers, who can function effectively as team members in IT service projects.

In addition, the company will expand its West Asia operations from Dubai to Al Khobar, where it plans to set up a development centre. ''This will not only strengthen the company's IT infrastructure, but also increase its focus on Saudi Arabia, which today accounts for nearly 40 per cent of the West Asian IT services market,'' Satyam's Senior VP (Asia Pacific) Virender Aggarwal said.

The company will also be better positioned to serve its current Saudi customers, including Al Rajhi Bank, Dabbagh, and Riyadh Bank, he added.

''More cooperation between Satyam and the universities of Saudi Arabia will help in augmenting quality IT manpower in Saudi Arabia,'' Mr Al-Moajil said.

Satyam looks forward to expanding the capabilities and presence in Saudi Arabia through more such alliances ''as that nation solidifies its position as a business leader in the West Asia and beyond,'' Mr Aggarwal added.
