Retired teachers demand repeal of AFSPA

Imphal, Nov 15 (UNI) The Association of Premier State College(APSCB) formed by retired teachers has demanded repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act(AFSPA) 1958.

APSCB General Secretary A K Chishti said a memorandum had been submitted in this regard to President APJ Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and the state Home Minister demanding repeal of the act.

He said the armed forces were playing havoc in the state due to imposition of the AFSPA.

Mr Chisti has also urged the Centre to monitor the talks with the NSCN(IM) as they regularly harass passengers, extort money from the truck owner and industrialists.
