Punjab govt approves 35 mega projects

Chandigarh, Nov 15 (UNI) The Punjab government today approved 35 new mega projects worth Rs 7313.11 crore that included 26 industrial, two agro and seven housing and township projects with an employment potential for about 61,050 persons.

This decision was taken in a meeting of the Empowered Committee held here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

The projects approved included 16 multiplexes-cum-hotel and four hotel projects in Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Bathinda, Moga, Phagwara and Mohali district entailing an investment of Rs 2701.23 crore.

The Empowered Committee also approved two manufacturing projects to be set up in Ludhiana district with an investment of Rs 578.79 crore. Three industrial parks to be set-up in Hosiarpur, Mohali and Amritsar districts with an investment of Rs 709.05 crore was also accorded approval.

The Committee also approved a Information Technology (IT) project for Mohali district with an investment of Rs 27.50 crore.

In addition, two projects-- Japfa Comfeed India Ltd and Bectors food specialised Ltd in the agriculture sector were sanction at a total investment of Rs 110 crore.

With the approval of these 35 projects, the Empowered Committee had so far approved 317 mega projects in the industrial, housing and agro sectors with a total investment of Rs 89,736.37 crore.
