Mulayam defends Abhishek for Yash Bharati awards

Lucknow, Nov 15(UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today defended his government's decision to present the prestigious Yash Bharati award to cinestar Abhishek Bachchan.

''Abhishek is an internationally known personality besides being a resident of UP'', the CM said.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Yadav said Abhishek is a well known actor and his contribution in the film industry is immense, a reason enough for his selection for the award.

Besides, the 1994 policy under which Yash Bharati Awards are given, justifies Abhishek Bachchan getting the award.

Abhishek will be the fourth in the Bachchan family to get this award comprising Rs one lakh in cash and a citation.

Abhishek's grandfather Harivansh Rai Bachchan, father Amitabh and mother Jaya have already been bestowed with the honour.
