Mineral theft of Rs 305 crore unearthed

Porbandar, Nov 15 (UNI) The officials of Mine and Mineral Department and the local administration conducted a joint survey of seven villages in the district and detected an illegal mining activity of over 97 lakh metric tonnes of lime stones amounting to whopping Rs 305 crore.

District Collector H N Chhibbar told reporters last evening that they surveyed Boricha, Barkhala, Adityana, Aniyari, Ranavav, Kutchadi and Bhod villages in the first week of November and found the illegal mining activity of over 97 lakh metric tonnes of minerals.

Legal steps would be taken against 18 persons for their alleged involvement in the mining activity, he added.

Earlier, the Porbandar police and local administration officials had detected theft of limestones worth Rs 54 crore during a drive on October 9. In this connection, Bhima Dula and his son Laxman Dula were arrested.
