Mah Govt submits report against fake doctors before HC

Mumbai, Nov 15 (UNI) The Maharashtra government today submitted an action taken report before the Bombay High Court, stating the number of cases filed against bogus doctors and its follow up till June 30 this year.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice H S Bedi and Justice V M Kanade, were told that about 2,493 cases were filed in Maharashtra against bogus doctors.

Additional State Government Pleader Pradeep Patil told the court that while 1,989 cases are still pending, in 38 cases the charges were proved and 35 were discharged. The court was also told that 212 cases were still under investigation by the police. Thirty-six cases have been disposed following investigation and hearing by various courts across the state.

Of the total cases, 69 were filed in Mumbai and 63 of them are pending before various courts, stated the report. There is one conviction and five are under investigation by the police.

In Navi Mumbai, 48 cases were filed against bogus doctors and 41 of them are pending in the courts, while there are three acquittals and four under investigation.

The status of Thane, the report stated, was that 131 cases have been filed and two have been proved, while 103 cases are pending, 12 are under investigation and four people were discharged.

The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Mariappa Gangau, who lost his wife and one child due to inadequacy and negligence on part of an unqualified doctor.
