Lucknow mayoral poll challenged by Cong's losing candidate

Lucknow, Nov 15 (UNI) Congress' losing candidate in the Lucknow mayoral poll Manzoor Ahmad today challenged the election of BJP nominee Dinesh Sharma to the post in the recently concluded Uttar pradesh civic poll.

Dr Ahmad has filed an election petition in the court of district and sessions judge Shivcharan Sharma here.

Meanwhile, the court issued notices to 16 persons, including Dr Sharma, asking them to file their replies by December 21.

The petition alleges irregularity in the September 25, 2006 notification for the mayoral post. It claims the directives for holding fair and free civic election were not followed.
