Kerala HC to proceed against former minister for contempt of court
Kochi, Nov 15 (UNI) The full bench of the Kerala high court, comprising Justices J B Koshy, A K Basheer and K.P.Balachandran, today decided to issue a chargesheet against former state minister and IUML leader Cherkulam Abdullah for contempt of court.
The alleged incident happened in 2001 after Mr Abdullah was selected as a minister in the UDF Government. A procession was taken out by his supporters in Kasaragod ditrict, during which there was violence against some shops.
Mr P Damodaran of Kasaragod filed a contempt of court petition against Mr Abdullah, alleging that the procession was taken out in violation of a high court judgement restricting processions.
The full bench opined that there was a prima facie case against Mr Abdullah and chargesheet has to be issued. The bench directed that a copy of the chargesheet be given to him within two weeks and he can give a written explanation within one month after receipt of the notice.
The case has been posted to January 17, 2007, for the appearance of the accused and his explanation.
