Kerala HC to proceed against ex-minister for contempt
Kochi, Nov 15 (UNI) The full bench of the Kerala High Court comprising Justices J B Koshy, A K Basheer and K P Balachandran today decided to issue a chargesheet against former state Minister and IUML leader Cherkulam Abdullah for contempt of court.
The incident happened in 2001 after Mr Abdullah was made Minister in the UDF Government. A procession was taken out by his supporters in Kasaragod district, during which shops were allegedly attacked.
Mr P Damodaran of Kasaragod filed a contempt of court petition against Mr Abdullah, alleging that the procession was taken out in violation of a High Court judgement restricting processions.
The bench said there was a prima facie case against Mr Abdullah and the chargesheet had to be issued. It directed that a copy of the chargesheet be given to him within two weeks and he could give a written explanation within a month of receipt of the notice.
The case had been posted to January 17, 2007, for appearance of the accused and his explanation.
