India sweeps 56 medals on opening day of Asian Masters Athletics
Bangalore, Nov 15 (UNI) Indian veterans dominated the competitions on the inaugural day racking in 56 medals, which included 14 gold, 17 silver and 25 bronze medals, in the 14th Asian Masters Athletic Championship held in Sri Kanteerava Stadium here today.
Athletes from Sri Lanka bagged 23 medals (four Gold, 13 Silver, Six Bronze) while Japan finished won 14 medals (Nine Gold, five Silver).
Indian Athletes Men and Women made a clean sweep by bagging all the three medals in 100 Metres sprint in Under 80 and 75 categories respectively.
In Men section T John Devasir bagged gold by finishing with a timing of 16.9 secs, L Bihari Singh and Capt Bhaw Singh Chauhan winning Silver and Bronze respectively. On the distaff side Bhupinder Kaur bagged gold by finishing 100 Metre run in 18.7 secs while Daisy Victor and S Mani Devi took the minor medals.
Sri Lankan women athletes from swept the first three medals in 100 Metres Under 50 category whith K G G Menike winning gold with a timing of 14.5 secs. She was followed by H Jayaratne and P P Lakshmi.
