Heroin worth Rs two crore seized in Punjab

Ferozpur, Nov 15 (UNI) Police have arrested a person and recovered two kg of heroin from his possession worth Rs two crore in the international market during routine checking this morning.

Senior Superintendent of Police Arpit Shukla told media persons that police party during routine checking in the area of village Sherewala under Police Station Sadar, Abohar spotted a Bajaj Chetak scooter without number coming from village Patli's direction (Rajasthan) and signaled it to stop.

Two persons riding the scooter tried to escape but police managed to arrest one of them, who was later identified as Makhan Singh of village Gulaba Bhaini PS Sadar, Fazilka and the other who managed to escape has been identified as Ravi of village Fatehpur near Hanumangarh, (Rajasthan). During search of the accused Makhan Singh, police recovered two kg of heroin, from his bag.

A case under sections 21,61,85 of NDPS Act was registered against the accused.

During preliminary interrogation the accused revealed that he had brought the contraband of heroin from across the border which was delivered to him by an unknown person send by Niamat, a notorious smuggler of heroin in Lahore (Pakistan), to hand over the same to Ravi, who is the main supplier of heroin in Rajasthan as well as in Punjab and has close link with Niamat.
