Haryana directed to submit Hansi-Butana canal report to CWC
Chandigarh, Nov 15 (UNI) The division bench of acting Chief Justice S S Nijjar and Justice S S Saron has directed the Haryana government to send Hansi-Butana canal project report along with documents to the Central Water Commission (CWC), which would study the matter within three months and submit the report.
The Rajasthan government has opposed the construction of Hansi-Butana canal by the Haryana government by taking off the same from Bhakra Mainline (BML) for irrigation water supply to southern parts of the state.
The Haryana government is constructing Hansi-Butana canal at a cost of more than Rs 200 crore but Rajasthan has objected to the same as premature, unwarranted and violation of Bhakra-Nagal agreement, 1959 as prior approval of not only Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) which is the regulating authority but also from Rajasthan being a partner state has not been taken.
