Five wounded in wild bear attacks in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 15 (UNI) At least five people were wounded when bears attacked them at different places across Kashmir overnight, police said today.

Giving details, police said a wild bear appeared at Lalpora, Warpora village in Sopore area of Baramulla district last evening and attacked 35-year-old Mohammad Shafi War. He has been hospitalised.

The bear appeared again in the area and wounded a Special Police Officer, Tariq Ahmad, who was rushed to the sub-district hospital Sopore for treatment.

The Wildlife authorities and the Baramulla Deputy Commissioner were informed and a police party was immediately deputed to the spot. To prevent further loss of life and property, the bear was killed under the orders of the Executive Magistrate, police added.

Police said another wild bear appeared at Rathsuna village in Tral area of Pulwama district and attacked and wounded Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat and Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat.
