Education must lead to development of personality: Gandhian
Vijayawada, Nov 15 (UNI) Eminent Gandhian and Sarvodaya leader Gopinathan Nair today said education must lead to the development of an individual's personality and should be helpful to inculcate a new value system.
Inaugurating a seminar on 'education scientific outlook and social change', organised to mark the 104th birth anniversary of social revolutionary leader Gora, Mr Nair said present education system was inadequate to some extent as it was only helping to enhance person's earning capacity rather than developing a comprehensive outlook of the individual.
He said education, scientific outlook and social change were inter-wined and cannot be separated. The education must lead to empowerment of the individual and help people to come out of the clutches of the traditional rut and must reverberate with new enthusiasm to strive for social change, he observed.
Referring to the significant contribution of Gora to society, he said Gora had a special place in the Gandhian movement with his unique personality and appealed the youth to emulate Gora's example to strive for social change with secular and scientific outlook.
International humanist and ethical youth organization representative K Alex from Beligum said Gora had worldwide influence in the atheist and humanist circles as he had championed atheism as a positive way of life.
He said Gora was a practical idealist and his emphasis on secular social work brought a new demension to the non-religious movement.
