Dr Walia distributes financial assistance cheques to widows

New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Delhi Finance Minister A K Walia distributed cheques of financial assistance worth over Rs eight lakh to 48 widows in Geeta Colony Assembly Segment in East Delhi today.

As many as 35 women below the age of 45 years were distributed cheques amounting to Rs 20,000 each whereas 13 women in the age group of 45 to 60 were given cheques amounting to Rs 10,000 each under a scheme of financial assistance to widows, a statement said.

Department of Social Welfare provied one-time financial assistance to widows for initiating an effort to start earning.

Dr Walia said all efforts were being made to provide suitable assistance to all needy persons including the widows.

There were no pending cases relating to financial assistance to widows in the constituency. It was being ensured that all applications were cleared quickly, he added.
