Depressed woman throws two sons down railway bridge
New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Police today detained a 30-year-old woman from the New Delhi Railway Station this afternoon after she threw her two sons from the railway bridge.
However, the boys -- Sunny (6) and Manish (4) -- survived, though the elder one has been admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in a serious condition, according to sources.
Shanti, a resident of Patna and said to be mentally depressed, in a 'fit' threw her two sons down rail bridge number 2 at about 1320 hrs, while heading towards the waiting room from the Ajmeri Gate side.
She later herself tried to jump from the bridge but was caught by a policeman standing closeby.
The lady had come here on November 11 to attend the 'Nirankari Samagam' being held at Burari in North-West Delhi and was to board the Patna-bound Sampurna Kranti Express.
Her mother-in-law and brother-in-law had been waiting for her at the station's waiting room.
Officials said the woman during interrogation was talking incoherently and out of context. ''She looked extremely depressed.'' DCP (Crime and Railways) Neeraj Thakur said she was being examined and the matter investigated. ''Only after something comes out of that we will register a case,'' he said.
