Delhi score easy win over Bihar to qualify for QF

Chandigarh, Nov 15 (UNI) Delhi trounced Bihar with a fluent 104-run victory in Pool H of the inaugural National Twenty20 Cricket Championship for under-19 being played here today.

It was Delhi's second successive win and qualified for the last eight stage.

Delhi won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 177 for 4.

Fine knocks by Gaurav Upadhaya (61, 6x4s) and Rohit Yadav (63, 7x4s) bolstered Delhi innings. They were associated in a 114-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Subir Bagchi claimed two wickets for 40 runs.

Bihar were cheaply dismissed for 73 runs. Only Subir Bagchi could reach the double-figure mark. Vishu Tomer (3 fro 20), Abhinav (2 for 4), Rohit Yadav (2 for 17) and Ramneet Bedi (2 for 20) destroyed the Bihar innings at the Sector 3 Cricket Stadium in Panchkula.

At the DAV Senior Secondary School ground in Sector 8, Baroda snatched an exciting one-wicket triumph over Chattisgarh in Pool C.

Needing two runs from the last ball, Nirav Patel hit Bhima Rao to mid-wicket boundary as Baroda scored 147 for 9 in reply to Chhattisgarh's total of 144, including 33 extras, all out in 19.4 overs.

A match-winning knock of 43 by Nirav Patel contained seven fours in 27 balls. Dhawal also made 43 with the help of six fours. Dhaval and Viral Patel (24) contributed 46 runs for the third wicket.

Chhattisgarh's Bhima Rao (2 for 26(, V Nilish (2 for 21) and Rohit Kumar (2 for 20) were the main wicket-takers.

Earlier, Chhattisgarh were all out for 144 in 19.4 overs.

Bhupinder Mishra (23, 3x4s, 1x6), Rohit Kumar (11), Shromit Hardas 25, Bhima Rao 16 were the main scorers. Jinesh Oza claimed three wickets for 16 runs. Mustafa (2 for 26), Dhaval (2 for 29) and Anurag (2 for 13) were the other wicket takers for Baroda.

Saurashtra finished their Pool G league programme with two defeats. Today they lost to Uttar Pradesh by nine wickets in an inconsequential match as Haryana have already made the quarter-final grade with two wins.

So far Maharashtra (pool B), Uttranchal (D), Jammu and Kashmir (E), Chandigarh (F), Haryana (G) and Delhi (H) have qualified for quarter-finals.
