Church of North India passes away in Nicobar

Port Blair, Nov 15 (UNI) Reverent James Kurehet, priest of a Church of North India (CNI) passed away this month at his residence Kinmai village of Car Nicobar island, CNI's senior member Thomas Philip informed today.

He is survived by his wife, four daughter and three sons.

''He was 81 year old and one of the disciples of Late Bishop John Richardson who had spread the Gospel in Nicobar group of Islands,'' Philip told UNI from Car Nicobar Island over phone.

Rev James Kurehet was ordained as Catechist in 1954 and confirmed as Priest in 1959. He was instrumental behind construction of Church at Sawai and Kimios villages at Car Nicobar.

The Tribal Council Car Nicobar and Executive committee members of the Church of North India have conveyed their condolences.

Car Nicobar island is the capital town of Nicobar Group of Islands and mostly dominated by Nicobari Tribal People. Almost all the churches of Nicobar Group are governed by CNI.
