CCP elects Lyngdoh as new CEM of JHADC

Shillong, Nov 15 (UNI) Former Meghalaya minister Edmund Lyngdoh was today elected the new chief executive member of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) at a Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) meeting.

Mr Lyngdoh will take over the reins from his incumbent Moonlight Pariat after the winter session of the Council which begins on November 21, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Onward L Nongtdu told reporters.

The CPP meeting was attended by Chief Minister J D Rymbai and his predecessor D D Lapang.

At least 11 dissident Congress MDCs have rallied behind Mr Lyngdoh demanding ouster of Pariat.

Last week, Mr Pariat who faced rebellion from a group of Congress dissident members forged a coalition with the Opposition to strengthen his position in the House. He formed the Jaintia Democratic Alliance (JDA) along with regional parties United Democratic Party with eight members and one Meghalaya Democratic Party member.
