BSF prevail in 26-shot penalty shootout, move in pre-quarters
New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Climax stretched to what look like eternity as Border Security Force (BSF) elbowed their way into the pre-quarterfinals prevailing 13-12 over indomitable Salgaocar after an unprecedented penalty shootout in a Durand Cup tie at the Ambedkar Stadium here today.
The dramatic penalty shootout was forced after both teams failed to score in the regulation time. What followed had few precedence in the game as all 22 players from either sides converted their first shots.
It boiled down to the second spot kick by Salgaocar's Francis Fernandes and the odd-man on the day duped the goalkeepr but found the crossbar. Samrat Choudhary converted his kick to send his team to the next round.
BSF join JCT, Phagwara, and Tata Football Academy in the pre-quarters.
