British Sports Minister calls on Delhi CM

New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) British Sports Minister Richard Caborn today, said India is one of the six nations in the world with which his country has signed MoUs on development of community sports and school sports.

He disclosed this when he called on Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in her office at Delhi Secretariat here.

Mr Caborn also apprised Ms Dikshit about sports activities in British schools where every child was involved in sports for at least four hours a week.

He also took keen interest in the brief about the city's preparations for 2010 Commonwealth Games. The Chief Minister told him that all preparations for the event had been put on fast track.

It had been decided to develop a dedicated corridor connecting games village and important venues apart from ensuring adequate supply of power and water, she said.

She added that her government would provide quality public transport system and upgradation of existing sports infrastructure had already been started.

While making reference of her visit to Melbourne, Ms Dikshit said, ''We have learnt a lot in Melbourne and we would like to utilise the experiences in giving fool-proof management of international sports events.'' She expressed confidence that the national capital would be successful in its bid for hosting the 2014 Asiad too.
