BJP fields candidate against TRS Chief
New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) The BJP today announced it would field Mr Vidyasagar Rao against Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao as the party finalised its list of candidates for various Lok Sabha and Assembly bypolls in the country.
Byelections to Karimnagar are caused by the resignation of Mr Rao after he resigned as Union Labour Minister protesting against delay in granting full statehood for Telangana. He has said byelection should be treated as a referendum for Telangana state.
The BJP has supported the cause of Telangana, as it wants to highlight the failures of both Congress and TRS in realising the dreams of creating a new state.
The BJP has been claiming it alone was capable of realising the dreams of a new state going by the past performance. It is also claiming it created new states of Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh when the NDA was in power at the Centre.
The BJP Central Election Committee under the chairmanship of party President Rajnath Singh approved the name of Mr Pakalapati Sanyasi Raju as the party candidate from Bobbili Lok Sabha in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.
The five names cleared for Assembly byelections are Mr Raje Menjo (Roing-ST), Arunachal Pradesh. Mr Bhupendra Singh (Kota), Chhatisgarh, Dr Devendra Verma (Pandhana-SC), Madhya Pradesh, Dr Ramesh Gajbhe, (Chimur), Maharashtra and Mr Surmal Parmar (Dungarpur), Rajasthan.
