Assocham opposes STs/SCs reservation in private sector
New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Industry chamber Assocham today opposed initiation of any punitive action in any form to enforce reservation for STs/SCs in private sector.
The chamber said that when industry is more than willing to voluntarily adopt affirmative action to recruit STs/SCs in their units, there is no need for any legislation on the issue.
Assuring the Government, Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat said the Government should review the progress on affirmative action every year and give industry a sufficient time to ensure that its drive for upliftment of STs/SCs in private sector turns out to be successful.
He said reservation should be effected on units that employ more than 500 working force.
Mr Rawat said the chamber has already designed 30 training programmes on STs/SCs, of which four have already been organised in Delhi and remaining 26 would be done in next few months.
Likewise, it is in the process of finalising its talks with ITIs to sponsor the expenses of STs/SCs candidates for their skill development.
The chamber will shortly write to all states requesting them to give it a list of STs/SCs candidates whose education can be sponsored by its members, so that they can acquire skills to undertake variety of jobs in the private sector.
