Army to reconstruct washed away bridges

Coimbatore, Nov 15 (UNI) Army's help was sought to reconstruct the two bridges between Baraliyar-Kallar in Mettupalayam-Coonoor route, which were washed away due to heavy rains on Monday night.

Nilgris District Collector Neeraj Mittal today held discussion with Army Engineering Corps and they had agreed to start reconstruction work by tomorrow.

The District Administration sources said landslides occurred in 22 places between Mettupalayam-Coonoor route and the Highways Department was clearing the debris on a war footing.

State Highways Minister Vellakoil Saminathan and other Ministers visited the spot and assessed the situation.

It would take one week to resume traffic on the route.

Presently, the traffic had been diverted through Mettupalayam-Kothagiri Road,official sources said.
