Army plans to raise a body to protect flora and fauna
Gangtok, Nov 15 (UNI) The Army has taken an initiative to raise a body to protect the rich flora and fauna of Sikkim.
GOC 9 Corps Lt Gen P K Ramphal, on a two-day visit to the state, told newsmen here today that a body called Sikkim Scouts have been raised to protect the state's ecology.
He also said that similar bodies called Ladakh scounts in Jammu and Kashmir and Garhwal Scouts in Uttaranchal were working towards conservation of the ecology.
Gen Ramphal said he would be giving this proposal to Chief Minister Pawan Chamling in a meeting today.
He is also scheduled to discuss the implementation of some Welfare schemes for the ex-servicemen and raising of a Territorial army in the state.
