Alert in N.Bengal as KLO chief's sister goes on recruitment drive
Siliguri, Nov 15 (UNI) A high alert has been sounded throughout North Bengal after a Union Home Ministry information that a sister of the KLO chief had entered the region on a recruitment drive.
According the information Sumitra, sister of Kamtapuri Liberation Organisation chief Jeeban Singh, entered North Bengal two days ago to recruit fresh youths.
IGP, North Bengal, Kishanlal Meena confirmed receiving the Home Ministry report.
Official sources said Sumitra once belonged to North Haldibari village under Jalpaiguri district. Her elder brother Tushar Das alias Tamir, who had been demanding a separate Kamtapur state, launched the KLO under the influence of the United Liberation Front of Asom(ULFA). Tamir is now known as Jeeban Singh.
Sources said according to the report from the Home Ministry, Sumitra entered this part of Bengal two days ago along with five KLO rebels. They were reportedly carrying arms and ammunition.
All the police stations in North Bengal had been alerted.
