AIDWA demands CBI probe into Khairlanji killings
New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Criticising the Maharashtra Government for ''mishandling'' the Khairlanji dalit killings matter, the All India Democratic Women's Association today demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
''We are shocked by the heinous crimes against dalits in Khairlanji village... we demand an inquiry so that the guilty are punished,'' AIDWA General secretary Sudha Sundaraman said.
She said AIDWA Vice Presidents Brinda Karat and Kalindi Deshpande had visited the village and found the investigation to be ''shoddy''.
''Such investigation smacks of deep-rooted caste bias on the part of the investigating authoirities....AIDWA calls for the dismissal of officers guilty of dereliction of duty while investigating the incident,'' she said.
The Central Government must take note of the incident, she added.
AIDWA will take up the issue with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Commission for Women (NCW).
''We will also launch a nation-wide agitation to ensure that the culprits are punished,'' Ms Sundaraman said.
