Veteran Communist leader dead

Kannur, Nov 14 (UNI) Freedom fighter and veteran Communist Leader N Subramanya Shenoy today died of old age at Payannur near here.

Shenoy, 93, is survived by his second wife and eight children.

He was admitted to the Payannur Cooperative Hospital on November 12 when he complained of uneasiness.

Born to Narayana Shenoy and Sreedevi Amma in 1913, he entered politics at a very early age during his school days. When Bhagat Singh became a martyr, he led a protest march in the school where he was studying. When he was in the ninth standard, he hoisted the tri-colour flag and was dismissed from the school.

He was a member of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) in 1935 and later when a section split from the Congress to form the Communist Party, he joined it.

Shenoy had represented Payannur in the Kerala assembly twice in 1977 and 1980.

The last rites would take place tomorrow.
