Two officials arrested for accepting bribe

Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, Nov 14 (UNI) A CBI police team arrested two government officials, including an Assistant Superintendent of Posts (ASP) for accepting a bribe in Killanur village yesterday.

CBI soucres today said a team led by Mani, under the directions of CBI Joint Director Ashok Kumar and Superintendent of Police G Venkataraman, trapped ASP E Karunakaran and his assistant Gopal following a complaint lodged by Shanta Devi, working as a branch post master (under extra departmental service).

The two were trapped while accepting the bribe from Shanta Devi, and arrested under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The ASP asked Shanta Devi, who stayed away from duty for some months, to give Rs 20,000 to reinstate her in service.

The two were remanded to judicial custody, sources added.
