Kashmir: Tahab grenade attack toll reaches 7

Srinagar, Nov 14: With the death of one more injured person, the death toll in the Tahab grenade attack on a religious congregation last Friday in south Kashmir has risen to seven.

Official sources said that one critically wounded Mohammad Yaseen Sheikh died in the hospital early this morning.

Sheikh was among 40 people, including a top muslim cleric, injured in the attack allegedly carried out by one Ghulam Nabi Mir on a muslim cleric Moulvi Abdul Rashid Dawoodi who was to address the congregation. Five people had died on the spot and another died in the hospital the next day.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government paid cheques of Rs one lakh each to the next of the kin of these killed in the attack.

An official spokesman said the Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo distributed the relief cheques.

Mir, who was caught by people and handed over to Army immediately after the incident, admitted to have hurled a hand grenade for he sum of Rs one thousand paid to him by one Nika Mir.

Police claimed Mir was given the job of carrying out the attack by Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) However, the pro-Pakistan HM, the single largest indigenous militant group operating in Jammu and Kashmir alleged that, Mir was working with the security forces for the past one year.
