Security official, 2 militants killed in SW Pak

Islamabad, Nov 14: A soldier was killed and two others were injured when militants fired rockets and gunshots last evening on security forces in Kahan area of Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province.

Security forces retaliated killing two militants, Dawn newspaper quoted security officials as saying.

Security forces were busy clearing the area of landmines when the militants launched the attack. A rocket hit the vehicle of a security contingent resulting in the death of a soldier Mohammad Qamar besides injuring two others.

Soon after the attack, security forces took positions and returned the fire, killing two militants, they said.

The militants removed the bodies of their accomplices from the site, they said, adding that an intercepted wireless message confirmed the killing of two militants.

Meanwhile, a rocket was fired towards Turbat township late last night, said officials.

Since the rocket landed in an open place, there was no loss of life or property, they added.

Police foiled an attempt of subversion in a village near Dera Murad Jamali, recovering two remote-controlled bombs.

''The bombs were planted in the village Rafiq Magsi. On receiving the information, a bomb disposal squad rushed to the site, recovering and defusing them.
