Power supply reinstated in Narcondum volcanic island
Port Blair, Nov 14 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar administration has resumed power supply in Narcondum island, a dormant volcano which was abandoned after its eruption in May 2005.
A survey conducted by the Geographical Survey of India in October stated that the island was now safe to reinstate the police look out post, required to check and prevent the poaching activities carried out by the neighbouring countries.
The power supply was extended to the police personnel through solar power plant at Narcondum Island,Electricity Department Superintendent Engineer Manohar Singh told mediapersons here today.
He said the Renewable Sources of Energy (RSE) had also conducted a survey to explore the possibilities of installing a micro hydro- electric power plant to strengthen the power system at Narcondum.
