Only senior most officer to be posted as DEO: HC

Chandigarh, Nov 14 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that only the senior most officer in the common cadre of district education officers, principals, DIET should be posted as the District Education Officer (DEO).

This has been ordered by the division bench of Justices Jagdish Singh Khehar and S D Anand today while setting aside the Punjab Education Department orders of June 15, 2006 vide which the petitioner Ranjit Kaur had been transferred from the post of DEO, Muktsar and posted as senior lecturer in DIET, Bathinda.

As per details of the case, a person junior in seniority to the petitioner was posted as DEO. While allowing the writ petition, the bench pointed out that the government note on the posting of DEO was clear that only the senior most should be the DEO, which is important enough to be adhered to.
