One killed in flash flood, in TN
Coimbatore, Nov 14 (UNI) The cleaner of a truck was killed and the driver suffered injuries when their vehicle was washed away by flash floods on the Baraliyar-Coonoor ghat section road following heavy rain last night.
Police today said the incident occurred when the truck overturned and fell 500 feet below in a hill area on Kallaru-Baraliyar ghat road. While the cleaner died on the spot, the truck driver Alim Bhai suffered injuries and was rescued.
In another incident, three policemen, including a woman Sub-inspector, were injured in a landslip at the Bariliyar police check post.
All of them were rescued, police said.
The road between Mettupalayam-Coonoor was damged in various places due to heavy rains and landslides. More than 50 trucks were stranded on the road and the drivers were shifted to safer places.
DIG Manjunath along with top police officials and officials of the Highways and Health departments rushed to the spot to supervise the restoration work.
